High PSA

Hi all,  my 92 year old father has prostate cancer,  because of his age it has been decided that no treatment will be offered.  His PSA is now reading 40 which is 3 points up from July.  This is high,  but does it really mean anything?

  • Hi,

When I was diagnosed my psa was 70. I felt perfectly well and the only way my prostate cancer was diagnosed is because when I heard water running in our metal sink, I had to run to the loo.

I am no medical man but I would have thought they might offer hormone therapy. I was given this and it brought my psa right down to 3.18 before I started radiotherapy. So it is a good treatment but there may be reasons why they arent offering this.

Takecare and all the best to your father, Brian
