  • Hi Bodger,

Welcome to this friendly and supportive forum.

Sorry to read about your diagnosis and hopefully, after you've met the radiologist on Wednesday, you'll have more idea about what treatment is required.

Your sons sound helpful and supportive coming to appointments and dropping you off for your op, but if they are unable to give you lifts for any reason, there is usually a hospital transport facility available . . . maybe worth asking at your next appointment?

I don't have experience of your particular type of cancer, but I'm sure someone will post soon who can give you more information and support.

Or, If you have any specific questions, you could ring the nurses on this site Mon to Fri (their number is on the home page.)

Please let us know how you get on on Wednesday,

    Take care, kind regards, Jo

  • Hi Bodger,

Have they told you what stage you're at?

You're right we do all have to go some time, but I'm buggered if I'm going to go quietly or a day before my time lol. Surgery and radio therapy isn't an option in my case, as the cancer has grown around my aorta,  but I am undergoing chemo.

I'm also relying on my son for lifts as I've been caring for my wife after she had a brain haemmorage if February and can't drive until she gets the all clear from the DVLA. She is due for another op in December - hopefully she'll be back on the road after that.

Good luck with your appointment - hope you get all the answers you need.

    Cheers

    Dave

  • Hi Bodger, welcome to this friendly forum, but I know you would rather be anywhere than here. We are so fortunate to have the support of others who are going through the journey of cancer also, the people on here know what its' like. I too, have bladder cancer. At present, I am being treated with BCG which is a TB serum that is injected directly into the bladder. I guess I will have these treatments for the rest of my life because from what I'm told, my cancer is also aggressive and can't be cured, it can only be treated and hopefully contained within the bladder. That is the goal, but I don't know what the future holds for me. It may come down to it that they will have to remove my bladder at some point, and I'll deal with that if and when I have to. In the meantime, as long as I am feeling okay in between the series of treatments, then life is good. Right now, I don't want to think beyond that.

Keep us posted on how things are going for you and as someone has already suggested, call or message the nurses and they will answer your questions, or direct you to somewhere on this site to read up on it. Take care of yourself and certainly your treatment team can share information with you, once they get a better idea of what they're dealing with.

I look forward to hearing more from you as you go through this process.

    Hugs to you.

  • Hi Jo Dave Lorraine
Thank's for replies ,Well I went for appointment at 9 this morning and stopped till dinner time
That I did not know about !! as they took bloods and had a photo ( I did not smile )
Have been told that I am having Chemo this next couple of weeks starting Asap for 9 week's
Then I have the choice of removal or radio and I think I'll go Radio as I am diabetic and
Chemo will be complicated so the dr has told me also healing will be slow if removed
the way I look at it if it's got ta come out yes but in the mean time we'll stay as we are
all the best to you guy's chin up as they say could be worse
  • Hi Bodger - so sorry to hear of your diagnosis and welcome to the site. I am glad you got an idea of your treatment plan today and hope it all goes well for you and you receive the support you need with your wife, and yourself!  There is a lovely gentleman called George (Urostar) on the site who has had surgery for the same disease as you - he has a thread going at the moment called 'My Cancer' and I am sure he would be pleased to help you if he can. Good luck my friend.  Max x

  • Hi again - that sounds like a good start.

Just a thought - have you been referred to a MacMillan Nurse yet?

We met ours this week and she had some useful, practical, advice on services that were available locally.

    Cheers

    Dave :-)

  • Hi Dave
Yes ? macmillan now there lies a story ?,
Back in July when all this started I went for a CT scan and at the same time I had the camera
was not told about this I was just going for a CT scan after I was told I had cancer and that
a Macmillan nurse was not avalible at that time but she would be in touch Asap Fine,
Got called back for Mri scan no Macmillan not heared a thing went in for  Trubt opp and
was sent home following afternoon ( Thursday ) sat on loo all night no sleep eventualy went
at 8am then by 1pm was in so much pain and could not go that my son rushed me back in
to A&E got there and went straight to loo ( relief ) car journey moved it
Anyway got into A&E and spent 8 hours on a trolley and at 9 30 pm they found a bed
and my son went home and being Diabetic I had no food at all till 11pm that night
And still no contact from Macmillan so back in Friday came home Sunday ,
Was on my laptop looking at Macmillan and it said that a nurse would follow a cancer
Patient once diagnosed  I wrote an Email to them and said that I had gone all this way
and never seen one the next App I had a phone call and YES it was her went in for APP
and saw her with the doc and she apologised for not being in touch?
have now being in to arrange chemo and No sign of her?
Wonder wether I'll see her again? as I have had know advice yet or what I am to do
So I'm just plodding on and finding out as I go
    Take care now  yours bodge

  • Bodger - so sorry to hear about your experience with McMillan, I can't praise them enough in our area. Give them another ring or e-mail and tell them you feel let down at such a difficult time and you may be lucky this time. Awful we have to fight for what we need sometimes, but such is life. Good luck and glad George has found you! Max x

  • If you feel up to it, give them a call and ask them to come round asap and while you're on the phone ask them to confirm that you're details are correct on their computer system.

Ours provide 24/7 phone cover, I think that's a standard service for them in all areas.

    Good Luck

    Dave
