Hi I’m a bit confused

I have stage 4 terminal cancer. After 2 years of radiotherapy, FEC chemo and Zolandex injections I have been told that my markers have normalised! I’m very confused what this means.

Ive also been asked to attend a meeting on Monday with my work to “see how we go forward from here” I’d love to go back but don’t know if I can.

  • Hi

My friend was given the same diagnosis and prognosis 6 years ago. His psa levels are now normal. Although not cured, the cancer is being kept at bay. Hes out gardening working and living life to the full. The consultants had painted a very bleak picture but there is hope. Everyone is different. Good luck, Maria

  • Thank you Maria. I’m finding it really hard to figure out. For 2 years I’ve fought and planned everything for my son and husband. My only child was on 15 when this kicked off so I’ve spent 2 years getting everything in order for him. My nieces and I have organised my funeral because I know my husband will go to pieces. I cant understand if they can control it why can’t they cure it. And let me see my son now 18 have a happy life.

  • Hi marge, I might be wrong but maybe terminal is wrong and should be non curable,, I've been stage 4 for the last three years over I've got prostate cancer that's gone to lymph nodes, spine, ribs, pelvis and a lung I was diagnosed Feb 2016 I have treatment it just can't get rid of my uninvited guest,, it's possible to live a normal life for a long time just now and again more treatment might be neaded hope this helps best wishes. • Hi Marge

You sound a very brave lady. Please dont think because your cancer is non curable it's the end for you. The chemo they give now can work wonders. My husband is in the same position. He has incurable bowel cancer with secondaries in his periteonal cavity. When we were given that new, like you, we thought that was it. He is still here and has a good quality of life. Non of us knows when that will change, but as I said in my previous post, we know people who have  beaten the odds. God bless. Maria

  • Thank you for your encouraging reply. I’ve had a long chat with my husband and we’ve decided after 2 & 1/2 years I’m going to give work a try.

Its not about the money it’s about trying to get my life back. I’ve always said cancer won’t kill me loneliness will. So I’m going to give it a try.

  • Good for you if not for my wife I'd still be working I'd have to consontrate in work so takes my mind off the cancer, instead of sitting at home waiting for the wife to want something doing, I get quite a few jobs done when she's asleep, but have a monitor with me so I'll hear if she calls, but it still boring compared to proper work,, good on you, hope all goes well...
