Herceptin injections for a year

I'm due to start herceptin through injections in January for a whole year. Has anybody else had or is having this treatment? If so, what are the side effects (if any) and how do you feel on it? Additionally,I was wondering if it stopped hair growth like the chemo?

Did you find your work life was effected by it or were you able to carry on as normal?

Many thanks,

An anxious Dannii x

  • Hi Danii,

I've just had my 11th Herceptin injection, I have another 7 to go. I have read that lots of people don't have any problems with Herceptin, just tiredness, aches and occasional flu like symptoms. For myself it's been a bit more complicated. In the beginning it was like that and I was able to go back to work during radiotherapy/herceptin (after chemo/herceptin), albeit mosty working from home. Once radiotherapy finished I was able to go into the office more and apart from breathlessness (which I still have) and tiredness I was ok. However, I did start experiencing chest tghtness & pounding heart in Sept. Had a muga scan and all was fine but I came off Herceptin and had a stress echo. That too was fine so I'm now back on Herceptin. However, not sure if the break affected things but I've strugged this time with headache, dizziness/vertigo, chest tightness & cough (although I have recently had a cold), tiredness and stiff burning aching feet! I'm a wreck lol. It's all got a bit much for me and I'm now off work again. I think it's very personal how we react to and cope with Herceptin and I hope you are problem free. From my experience even with the side effects I've had it is not as bad as chemo and my hair grew back once chemo finished. Good luck with your treatment.

  • Omg sounds like u've really been thru the mill bless ya. Hoping I don't get too many side effects and can go bk to work etc, glad to hear hair does grow bk whilst on herceptin lol.

Thanku for replying hope u go on well!
