Helping your children deal with Cancer in their lives

I lost my mum last year to Cancer when I was 19. I found during her 4 year battle there was a lack of support out there for people my age and younger. There was loads for my mum but not a lot for the children. I’ve started my own Cancer support group called LACS (Life After Cancer Support) it’s aimed at children and young adults. The idea is it’s a support network where they can share stories, share advices, coping techniques and strategies etc. I started hosting group meetings but found children could be quite shy and nervous which is understandable so I’ve now launched my own YouTube Channel called Life After Cancer Support. It launched last week. The channel will include Vlogs of all my charity work as I fundraise a lot, real life stories, advice videos, question and answer videos. The channel could be the perfect place for a young person to get advice on how to deal with problems involving Cancer in their life. Here’s the link

ive experienced all aspects of cancer from my mum being diagnosed to her treatment and her death. I have a lot of life experience to offer to young people like myself. I’ve also raised nearly £25,000 for CRUK in just over a year.

Tom

  • Hiya Tom.  Well done you for doing something so positive after your own tragic experience.  I will add you to the information I have been building up of websites and support groups for children/young people affected by cancer and will keep an eye on what you are doing to add to the list.  Are there any particular age groups at which you are aiming or are you just seeing who turns up (so to speak) at the moment.  I know it is very early days yet but best of luck with this.  Cheers.  Annie

  • Hi Annie, my channel is aimed at all ages. It could even help adults understand how their children may be feeling. There’s not other YouTube channels out there offering this so I feel it could be really beneficial
