Help us to help the NHS diagnose cancer earlier

18 Sep 2017 08:23

We all know that the earlier a cancer is diagnosed the more likely it is to be treated successfully. At the moment, just over half of people are diagnosed early in England. This needs to improve.

Most cancer patients will have to undergo test as part of their diagnosis – for example a scan or blood test. Right now, there aren’t enough NHS staff to carry out and interpret these tests – at least 1 in 10 posts are unfilled. And we know that demand is going to increase in the future as more people are referred for diagnostic tests, so the NHS will need to train and employ more of these essential staff.

We want the Government to train and employ more NHS staff in England to diagnose cancer earlier – and Jeremy Hunt has the power to make this decision.

Take two minutes to email Jeremy Hunt using our online form. We’ve drafted a template email for you to send, which you can edit if you like.
