Help? Ampullary/duodenum

Hi hubby recently diagnosed and underwent a large surgery PPPD / whipple in July

he is on second 0f 8 rounds of oxaliplatin and capecitabine.

can anyone give me any advise on any of the above .to be honest we are so shellshocked we don t want to know about any of it . The oncologist mentioned 5/24 nodes removed and RO margins .

chemo is horrid and can anyone advise on something for anxiety which my hubby is suffering from and gets worse when we go for treatment . Thank you

  • Hi

sorry to hear your husband is struggling with chemo. My husband also suffers from anxiety and got medication from the GP, this will be seperate to meds your oncologist prescribes. Good luck with his treatment.

  • Hello

My gp has given me mirtazapine for my extreme health anxiety.

    Best wishes

  • Hi,

We (myself & husband) are 'experts' in the 'lived experience' of chemo (:

I don't know what PPPD is, have vague idea of 'whipples' all gastric type stuff I seem to think.

Ours was 8 rounds of chemo , oxiplat, taxane and 2 other all in one go x8 and Oesophagectomy .

He finished all treatment toward the end of March.

Please ask away, anything you like.

But we are out they other side, and fingers crossed job done.

Don't be too concerned about the anxiety, I think it is almost compulsory given the circumstances. My goodness it is not an everyday event, by a long straw. What helped us both incredibly was distraction, anything to get your mind on something else. When he was in his 10 hour surgery I went to work!!! When I came home had a phone call after about an hour to say he was out and okay- some may say that was a weird thing to do, but it worked, so do anything to distract you from 'it'

    Best wishes

PS R0 margins are good and 5/24 is also good. So chemo to 'mop up' /murder any stragglers that are thinking about setting up home.
