help

im worried about a friend here i want to help her and understand her situtation about having a brain tumour more but i dont want to ask her as it upsets her. i have a few questions if anyone could answer it would be so helpful.

1. can chemo treatment only last one week for her to be told that it's not working and she needs surgery??

2. if the conditions are bad, is there a rush to get surgery or can the surgery wait a few months?

3. and how many days a week is chemo treatment?

  • Hi Shannon,

I'm afraid that the answer to all those questions will be "it depends" as everyone's cancer is slightly different as is the way our bodies respond to treatment.

If you repost in "Ask the Nurses" you may get a more professional response, but I think the gist will be the same.

    1) yes - if they have scanned and seen that the tumour hasn't responded to treatment or the chemo is having unwanted side effects

    2) that would depend on how aggressive your friend's cancer is - you should prepare yourself dor there being a rush to surgery

    3) that really does vary from case to case

    Best wishes
