Hello, anyone else trying to keep up with a sport on chemo?

Hello anyone out there,

I'm sat in bed waiting for my little girl to wake up, been up since 3 but didn't want to wake anyone up  so thought I would say hello.

I'm a keen kickboxer, been training for 4 years and even trained through my pregnancy 2 yrs ago.  I love it (even if im not great at it ) and am still training but so many people are shocked like I should be "careful" I've read up and exercise is fine and I take caution not to over do things and I'm enjoying it too.

Is anyone else out there in a similar situation and how are you finding it?

Big hugs

Kerry

  • Hi there kerry

    welcome to the forum

it sgood to have something to focus on during chemo otherswise this whole cancer thing can consume every minute of your life

i had a head and neck cancer and weekly 8 hour chemo sessions and although I played a lot of sport prior to my treatment, during chemo I just slept, but I made a point of walking my dogs daily, but it took me time during the hard parts

you might have to tailor it down a bit and if it gets tough don’t be so hard on yourself if you have to stop for a while....but always have it in your mind that you want to get back

keep fighting and you will get through it

  • Thanks Vatch. Great advice.....

I'm lucky my team are supportive so will work with me on what I am able to do....

How are you getting on now? Are you still in treatment?

  • Hi Kerry,

Good for you. I'm pretty sure that the fitter you are the better you will be able to cope with chemo. Training should be OK as long as you listen to your body and don't overdo things.

I was advised to avoid crowds and anyone likely to have an infectious disease as my immune system was weakened by the chemo. Play it by ear and you'll be fine.

    Best wishes
