Hello and thank you for letting me join

Hi, I am so far a cancer survivor. My story is long and complicated so here goes:  I was diagnosed with hormone responsive breast cancer six years ago. I had surgery, rads and hormone treatment. Two years after that I got a head and neck cancer. This was a rare one, SC Carcinona. I lost quite a bit of jaw, my salivary gland and inner ear which left me deaf. I had extensive plastic surgery which left me looking quite normal, whatever that is. I had more radiotherapy which was pure hell in that area as it affects balance and makes you sick as well as destroying the ability to taste. Last year I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer which was a bit of a shock to say the least. I was found to be BRCA2+. My oncologist thought I looked too well and it was downgraded to stage 3. I finished chemo in November 2017 and had a lot of internal organs removed.

OK so having got all that out of the way, my primary purpose in posting is to help those who are starting out on this journey  I have loads of tips, free advice and one working ear if you need to rant. Kit

  • Hi there kit ..

    Oh my ... I've met some "hero's" on here ... most don't see that .. but I do ... their my hero's ...

But you brave lass take the crown for me ... I feel very humble reading your post ... I'm sure you've had those days like we all have, where it feels overwhelming... but that shear gut strength that is sticking two fingers up to cancer is you ... I've seen so many awards shows on t.v for actors and those personalities who get O B E , made a sir ... just for being in the public eye ... I won't watch them any more .. we've lost the real meaning of bravery and a want to help others even when they have their own journey ..

You are much needed here ... so many come on scared and feeling lost and vulnerable ... we all need stories like yours to make us take on just one more day, one more treatment, and one more operation ..

Well you are my smile for the day ... and your right up there , my number one hero too ..

    Big vertual hug ... chrissie

  • Hi Kit . I agree with the lovely Chrissie you are one wonderful brave girl. It’s good to talk with you. I am going through non hodgkin lymphoma and am having CHOP Chemo. Having number 5 next Tuesday and last one on the 14 th August. Been so weak and ill and stomach problems and lost my hair of course. Never had to go through anything like this awful journey I’m on. Some days I just cry and go back to bed then I get myself more positive and get a bit of strength back. Had Pet scan yesterday so hoping it’s seeing it off. Thank you for listening to me rabbiting on. Really helps to talk to someone like yourself who know where I’m coming from. Lots of hugs xx
