Hear we go again!!!

Hi there my names Rob

Thought Id finished with health worries forever, when my first post Chemo scan for Bowel Cancer back as clear.

Its now 10 months later and have been diagnosed with Liver Mets which Ive been told that surgery is not an option at present or for the forseeable future.

As im only expecting Chemo treatment now, does anyone know what kind I should expect.

Last time I recievied Oxalyplatin & Capacytibine in combination. I hated it!!!

  • Hi I’m so sorry to hear that and that you have to go back through this! How old were you when first diagnosed? I am 26 and have colorectal cancer !

You beat it the first time , you can do it again

  • Hello there!

I`m living in the fear my first post chemo scan will come back clear and then next one will show something again :/

I have read about reocurrence in the liver and in some cases even if the surgery wasn`t possible in the first place chemo shring tumour to the size that this could be cut off...

not sure about what chemo is morelikely to be used for secondary liver cancer...

But as same as you I had 3 months of Xelox treatment and as much as the first cycle went amazing next ones were way worst... Completed it mid Nov and still getting some side effect from it...

I think best way is to discuss options with your oncologist - explain him that Xelox had a massive impact on your body and maybe he will be able to offer other treatment or smaller dosage of Xelox.

I will have to say same thing what Jessie said - you beat it once - you can do it again :)

    Stay strong!

  • Thanks Mal.

Visited my Oncology Dr at the hospital yesterday.

I think I met everyone in the world and they're dog whilst I was there, am lucky to have such a really supportive team.

I was on Xelox last time round. Apparently this time they intend to pop in a PICC line to give me my poison at the hospital and then a pump to take home to administer more medication over a 48hr period. Ive been reassured though that its alot kinder than the Xelox, (Oxalyplatin & Capacytibine therapy). Have you heard of or met anyone with one of these pumps Mal??

    Many Thanks Rob.

  • So, Im 45 now and was diagnosed when I was 43. I appreciate age should not be a factor in anyones personal experience of Cancer, but Oh my days 26 yrs old, that just aint fair

I found the Chemo more of a slog than anything. How about you??

I was fortunate enough though to be able to return to work after treatment. Dont think that'll be an option this time, im just planning to ride it out and enjoy proper time with my Wife and Kids

This may sound daft but after help from the guys at Mac Millan last time, I don't feel afraid or angry and am ready for anything. Yes I do feel stronger in mind but a damn site more fatigued, im hoping this treatment will improve that. Thankyou for your reply

Take Care and good luck X

  • Hello

Unfortunatelly I didn`t come across the pump or anyone with pic line during my cancer jurney - however there are plenty people on Instagram who had pic lines fitted - maybe might be worth to have a look round there? you can easily join the group just enter #bowelcanceruk or any hashtag with bowel cancer - there is plenty people willing to help and give you a hope and keep positive :)

I know the pic line will go straight to your heart to pump medication and I really hope this time will be much better experiance than the last one. It might be also find some groups on FB pages which are local to you.

  • Ive only just picked up the support group thread again.

Last time round I met and chatted to some wonderful and inspiring folk on the Bowelcancer.org website, so will take your advice and be dropping back onto the site for a catch up soon.

Thanks Mal and it's good to hear from you

  • You are very welcome!

Hope to hear from you from time to time! You will beat it I`m sure!
