Health anxiety & symptoms.

Hi sorry for the TMI post - but nothing is ever too much information when it comes to health, right? Just for added info, I'm 25.

Ever since having children I have been battling a few health fears of leaving them. Over the past year I haven't been feeling quite right. Anxiety or actual illness I don't know.

I've had a couple of episodes of fresh red blood in stool which I've had a rectal examination for from the GP and can't feel any lumps or bumps with no fresh blood in glove (sorry). They've passed it down to a possible tear as it happened when I passed a larger bowel movement. I've had no blood in stool since however, my stools do appear to have been soft for the last few months. Not watery, just mushy and no shape. I don't have any pain anywhere. I'm finding myself going to the toilet at least twice a day which isn't unusual for me as that's my usual habits but last few weeks I've been going 2/3 times. I don't think my diet has changed and I've never really had any intolerance to any food.

I did have a blood test about 4 months ago to check my levels which came back fine but my iron was a little lower but I was on my menstrual cycle and I tend to have a rough 2/3 days when I first start so GP said this could have something to do with the lower iron levels.

I do feel tired but having 2 young children, it is tiring work! Plus a job. I've recently been suffering with haziness in my vision but eye test came back fine & healthy looking eyes from scan.

im waiting to hear back from the GP this afternoon and hopefully get some tests in. Is there anything I should specifically ask for?

please be kind, I know I could possibly have health anxiety but also, don't want to pass it off with this if anything sinister could be going on... advice! X

  • Hi A17

I know exactly where you are coming from in regards to feeling more anxious and worry from having had children. I feel the same since I had my first last year. As you said it's the fear of something happening to you and leaving them.

With your bowel issues definitely keep on at your doctor if you still aren't feeling yourself and are worried. You could ask them to do a qfit test that can help detect tiny amounts of blood in your stool.

I recently had one done as I have been having blood in mine for a while now. I had a third degree year, that required surgery after my boy was born so put it down to that. My results have came back very high so I've been sent an urgent referral for a colonoscopy so am in panic mode now thinking the worst. The waiting time is normally only two weeks but because the way the nhs is atm it could be months before I'm seen and we don't have the money to go private.

Hope everything goes ok for you x
