Hair loss and Myeloma

I have Lambda Light Chain Myeloma which is refractory.

I have recently lost my hair to DT PACE (intensive 24hour chemo for 5 days) which unfortunately, like the previous two treatments (VTD & CTD), did not suceed in reducing my light chains to a more normal level. I considered back in July how I might feel when I lost my hair so I wanted to return to this subject after the event.

Here is my blog about my feelings. I'd be interested to hear about the experiences of others.

  • Hi Paula, Another interesting read, not only for those with myeloma but for the wider 'cancer community'. It's also well written and thankfully, you obviously proof read your offerings. Well written matters to me, for some reason.

It's pleasing to see that you're at ease with your hair loss but not so that you're refractory. I sincerely hope that there are more options to try and that your team finds something that works. Looking forward to your next instalment.

    Best Regards

  • Thank you Taff, yes proof reading matters to me too, and reasonably correct grammar; it comes of having been an academic for years I guess. I have a meeting with my consultant next week, who has consulted with an expert in another hospital for a second opinion. They have also carried out a FISH test so I am hoping this will shed some light on which genetic sub types are involved and hopefully inform further treatment. Paula
