Grandfather diagnosed with cancer.

I'm really concered about my grandfather who is 65 and was diagnosed with bladder cancer at the start of September. He went in for an operation to attempt to remove the two tumors on his bladder in mid September. Once he had healed, they have asked him back in for MRI scans and CT scans and have said that the cancer has spread to a tube towards his kidney. They have also said the smaller of the two tumors on his bladder is a very fast acting cancer and he needs to come back in for an operation to shave off some more of the small tumor and then have a second blast of chemo. They have said the operation will not be for another 6 weeks. I'm really concerned at the time this will take for him to have the second operation as they have said it's a very fast acting, fast growing tumor. Am I right to be concerned?

  • Hi Abby..

So sorry bout your grandad... cancer sucks no mater what age ... yes it is worrying when we have a fast growing cancer ... and it's hard to wait for treatment ... but there are many is unfortunately that are waiting too .. sometimes in truth chemo can take it's toll on everything health wise .. to just maybe give a little extra time .. but the side effects are many ... maybe ask what percentage of longer life it may give ..

Has anyone asked your grandad what he wants .. if he really wants chemo, then fight to get it sooner .. if he doesn't want to go through this just for a bit of time , when he could make everyday he has count .. thats what im doing ..  but really, let him lead the way .. find out how he feels .. and respect witchever way he wants to go ... sending you a vertual hug...
