GCT Diagnosis

Hi there! I'm 28 years old and in the last couple of weeks I've had my right ovary and Fallopian tube removed. Found out a couple of days ago that the lump was actually a Granulosa Cell Tumour. Everything else is looking good and don't need any further treatment at the moment just got to keep having bloods and scans done every few months!
Just wondering if anyone else had it at a young age, as my Gyne said it was highly unusual for someone my age! Also any details of anything surrounding GCT would be useful as I cannot find a lot of information anywhere!
Anyone that's been diagnosed once had it come back again elsewhere?
Any information would be much appreciated x

  • Hello Lottielou

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. I hope that you're recovery from the surgery has gone well. It's great to hear no further treatment is needed and I'm sure that it's reassuring to hear that they'll be keeping an eye on you in the future.

Granulosa cell tumours are the most common type of sex cord stromal tumours (SCSTs). However SCSTs are in themselves a rare type of ovarian cancer so it sounds as if you've been very unfortunate to have had this at a young age.

We do have some information here on our website which may be of help but you may also want to have a look at the information on the Target Ovarian Cancer website here. You may also be able to connect with others who have had the same diagnosis via their online community.

You're most welcome to give our team of nurses a call to talk things through with them if you'd like to. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040 and will be back in the office after the bank holiday weekend. I'm sure they will be happy to give you any information and support that they can.

I hope this helps and wish you well in the future.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
