Sounds like an interesting project Angie!  I do like the title Angie's Onco Wonka Book :) and wish you the very best of luck with it.

  • Hi angie

    good idea

having gone through throat cancer I found that I quickly went off of everything during 30 sessions of radio therapy

towards the end of my treatment there was nothing going down my throat, but post treatment it takes a while to get back into the swing of things to eat

in those inititial days post treatment it was soggy wheatabix and porridge anything not to sugary and spicy but not to thick and dry too

In the initial weeks of my treatment, people had told me that mash potatoes and gravy were a good thing, I tried it and liked it, so my wife made tonnes of the stuff, but within a day I had gone off it and she ended up giving it to the dogs

even now 2.5 years post treat, things like bread are too difficult for me so I turn to wraps with moist fillings

chocolate is a complete no no .... I am quite happy about that though as I used to snack terribly on the stuff

katsu curry, it's Japanese, not too spicy, but it's like rice with loads of Gravy, with a few bits of chicken thrown in......

    I hope it goes well

  • Hi,

When I was on chemo for OC I survived for much of the time on:

Homemade power shakes - full fat milk blitzed with varous combinations of:-
    Peanut butter,
    Banana,
    Chocolate powder,
    Soft fruits (strawberries, blueberries etc.)

Homemade smoothies - combinations of different fruit blized together

Homemade soups - vegetable based and meat based (more often than not chicken based)

Homemade stews and casseroles - blitzed into soup when I was having problems swallowing

    Chocolate

    Cake

All eaten on a little and often basis throughout the day - or at least whenever I was awake. I managed to keep my weight loss down to a minimum, despite having no appetite for much of he time.

I avoided anything colder than room temperature because cold drinks or food caused my throat to constrict and made it feel as if I was being strangled! Even breathing cold air had this effect - for up to 3 days after my EOX chemo infusions. So no ice cream for me :-(

    I hope this helps!
