Food assistance

Hi all,

i was just wondering if anyone had any tips for  food boosting? My mum has such a large tumour it's pressing on her stomach and she can't eat much without freeling unwell. As a result she's now lacking in substinance and feeling faint quickly and it's stopping her cracking on with life whilse the doctors faff around deciding what to do with it. It is cancer so hopefully theyll do a biopsy soon and sort this out!!

in the mean time i want to find things that can help her reserves. Glucose pouches? Shakes? Things that don't take up much room in her tummy but provide everything she needs?

    Hi Mrsfocus,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I am sorry to hear about your Mum's predicament. Have you looked at the healthy living section of this site? The other thing that you can do is to use the search engine on the blue bar at the top of this page.  Insert your keyword and you will find previous posts on this subject.  I haven't had this problem myself, but I was aware of it when I was losing my Mum to metastases from Breast cancer. In her final year it had spread to her liver, lungs, brain and bones.

She shrank away to a skeleton. I tried home made soups, liquidised foods, and latterly build up drinks, which can be prescribed by your GP. Some of the drinks were OK and some were absolutely awful. Your district nurse may give you a mixture just to try before giving you a larger amount. Don't be put off if the first one she tastes is no use. Just keep trying different ones until you find one that she can drink.

Have a wee word with her nurses and see what else they can suggest that might help your Mum.

I sincerely hope that the consultants come up with a treatment plan soon.

Do keep us in the loop. There is always someone here whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
