Flot chemo and oesophagus cancer

Hi does anyone have any experience of flot chemo and oesophagus cancer? My husband has had chemo and the op. Just wondering how difficult post op chemo will be for him.

How do you get your partner to eat and take meds when they don't want to?

  • Hello Caz68,

I have actually just welcomed another member to our forum [@Mariey]‍ whose husband also has oesophagus cancer so I think it would be great for you both to be in touch at the moment and support one another during this difficult time. You can read [@Mariey]‍ 's thread here and you will also see in my response to her a few resources and other threads I have signposted her to which I hope will also be very useful to you.

Our nurses are also available on this number 0808 800 4040 - the number is free to ring and their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. Don't hesitate to give them a ring and discuss this with them.

I hope you wil hear from others who are or have been in a similar situation and that they will share with you tips based on their individual experiences to help you get your partner to eat and take meds. Do mention this too to his medical team who I am sure will have some valuable advice for you on this.

I hope everything goes well with your husband's treatment and that he recovers fully from the operation.

    Best wishes,

  • I lived on soup , ice cream , rice pudding , custard for 6 months , now back eating all sorts with often and small amounts , it's exactly a year tomorrow since I walked down the corridor wondering if I'd come back it's been a long hall still get tired easily, have a terrible sleep pattern amongst other side effects but on the plus side I've just decorated a huge stair case and landing lol

  • Hi,

Not another one! In the nicest possible way. What on earth is going on. We were diagnosed in very late July, I started using this board, and we are literally multiplying like rabbits (:

Maybe I am just 'tuned into ' everything Oesophageal, but blimey we are becoming 'common as muck(:

I am trying to figure out a way to get us all on one board, so no one gets 'missed'- unless they want to of course, but no idea or suggestions have turned up.

Back to your original question. Yes we are through the pre op FLOT and the keyhole Oesophagectomy surgery and last Monday started the post op FLOT. Let's just say, he did it, but feels like utter s***ite. To me , he seems the same as before, but he says no, far worse, but I wonder how much is 'psychological' , what he has had over the last 6 month has been utterly brutal. Before surgery, the FLOT was almost a let's crack on 'positive' part of the plan, but now he is right royally sick of the whole thing and just wants 'normality', so I think that is more of an issue rather than the chemicals. So a frame of mind  thingy.

He is 'dreading the next 3 as he hates feeling so rough, but like we say - what choice do we have, this will be over soon.

He has just starring to eat again today (4 days after).

    best wishes
