First chemo tomorrow ABVD

As the title says it is my first chemo tomorrow ABVD for my Hodgkin's lymphoma stage 3s. It's been a long road to diagnosis since February and I'm largely grateful to finally be here so I can get the treatment and start recovering. However I am still feeling very apprehensive.

I've been to the Macmillan workshop and spoken with my nurse however I am just still feeling unprepared and unsure of things.

I suppose I'm most concerned about having some crazy allergic reaction to the meds as I did myself no favours and read a few horror stories online!

Just looking for any guidance from anyone currently going through it or has been through in the past.

Also this might seem very silly, but I'm 26 and the rest of those in my chemo clinic are 55+ so I guess that's also making me feel a bit alienated too!

  • Hi Rose

Sorry you're having cemo at your age, there are other's (young) on here but they don't always want to stay, most cemotheropy is an anticlimax apart from the neadle, in your hand or wrist for a long while,, unless you have a bad side effects, remember nurses have helped hundreds of people to carry on with treatment, it's for your own good, hopefully others will join you to talk soon best wishes.. If you're really worried take someone with you

  • Hi Ross, nowadays each chemo dose is gauged to the individual not just a load of drugs pumped in as happened in the olden days!  So you should be able to cope, there are side effects obviously but the nurses will talk to you and you'll have a dedicated nurse to help you if you have concerns when you're home.  Take a good book with you, from my experience most patients don't want to talk but some do.  I went with my husband but was always in the way as there's very little space for extra bodies to hang around!!  But they could take you and collect you to give support.  Good luck for the future, Carol x
