Finances whilst off work

Hi all. I've been told today that stem cell replacement is likely . This would involve 4 weeks in hospital and a further 5 months off work without an income. Obviously I would like to avoid losing my mortgaged home and wondered if anyone had any advice or experience with similar circumstances ? ....many thanks

Contact MacMillan or citizens advice. I think both Halifax and Loyds bank offer help to people dealing with cancer altho i don’t know how good/effective it is.

Hi Gary's You should be entitled to employment and support allowance (ESA) even if you have savings as long as you have contributed to National Insurance. This also keeps your NI payments up. You could also be entitled to Personal Independent Payment (PIPS) depending on your health care needs. McMillan's should be able to help you with this. If you are going to struggle paying your mortgage contact your provider as they may be able to help. If you have PPi check out claiming.

Anyone undergoing chemo or recovering from chemo is entitled to ESA. You have to apply by phone and then submit an application form that'll be sent to you. If you're only claiming it because of cancer, only a small part of the form is required to be filled in.
Payment can take a good few weeks to start so it's better to put in for it sooner rather than later.
