Final weeks or days?

I know my Mum is nearing the end from everything I have read. I came to visit this weekend and significant difference to when I last saw her. Has gone downhill the past week. New symptoms include swollen feet and brown and minimal urine, as well as being extremely weak. I think she will now be confined to bed, as moving her seems like wasted energy. I am wondering if the brown wee and swollen feet are signs of kidney failure, and how long she might last. I have to travel home tomorrow and am worried about leaving her. Should I stay?

  • Oasis,

I am sorry you are going through this. If you got gut feeling then rather stay. My mom is termnal as well and my greatest fear is not being at her bedside last moments . I do think asking her doctor would give you the best answer. Do you live close by or far away?

I think you would rather stay just to be safe that regret it. I hope she will be ok though.

  • Thanks for your reply

I live 3 hours away. Mum was better today. The nurses have put her steroids back up so that seems to have helped with her fatigue. She was awake for longer and more perky. And although she only had one wee there was plenty there considering how little she drinks. So I guess today was a better day. Have returned home. Will see how the week goes. Will be back again at weekend. I am lucky that she has a wonderful partner and I have two sisters who live close by who are always there for her. We now have nurses coming in to help with personal care so that will take a weight off.

Sorry about your Mum too. It's such a *** disease. Make the most of the good days x
