Hi there I'm new to the group and a little nervous about an upcoming breast clinic appt. In 2014 is was diagnosed with a fibroadenoma and have never worried about it as the are benign lumps. However I recently noticed it has grown in size so had it checked with GP who also found another lump in same breast that I wasn't aware of. Im 50 years old and I'm worried as I thought fibroadenoma s started shrinking as you got older not get bigger. I'm just dreading breast clinic appt but not too long to wait as it's on 23rd Jan. Has anybody else had a fibroadenoma that has got bigger and caused problems?
A very warm welcome to our forum.
I am not a doctor but understand that it is possible to have a number of ibroadenoma in one breast. Sometimes the larger ones are what is known as complex cysts. If they are particularly large, doctors sometimes remove them.
I am glad to hear that you don't have too long to wait for your breast clinic appointment and hope that all turns out well for you.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Thank you for your reply. Yes I think if I'm given the option of having it removed I will take it so as to put any future worry to an end.
Hopefully the second lump is the same kind ie fibroadenoma.
I will keep you updated after my appointment.
Good news, been to the clinic. I have 6 fibroadenoma all together and the original one has doubled in size from 9 mm to 18mm. They said they aren't worried about them and I didn't need a biopsy. I guess I'm just good at growing lumps!
Thank you for your update. I am delighted to hear that these new lumps are still fibroadenoma and that your care team are not worried about them. I am sure that you feel a tremendous amount of relief tonight.
Thanks Jolamine yes I'm very relieved and I suppose now I'm 50 I will have 3 yearly mammograms so they will be monitored, that makes me feel much better.
Take care and thanks for your replies
