Feeling so weak since Chemo

Hi everyone. Had my last CHOP Chemo 14 th August . Had 5 sessions every three weeks. Now awaiting result of Latest Pet scan done a week ago. Just feel so tired and weak and wobbly. No energy. Bits of hair growing through which is nice. Should I be feeling bit stronger now or am I being too impatient. Also got aches and pains in back and limbs . Keep worrying I’m not picking up enough. Wishing all you lovely folk every good wish and lots of love  xxx

  • Hi Gloden,

I had a different kind of chemo but it took quite some time to physically recover from my chemo. It was six or seven weeks before I recovered enough energy to start to function normally. I forced myself into exercising - nothing extreme just dog walking and swimming - baby steps at first and slowly building up over time.

Be patient, eat little and often, sleep as well as you can and take it one day at a time :-)

All statements of the obvious I know but it seems to work.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • Hi Dave. Thanks for you reply. Much appreciated. Best wishes and hugs x

  • Hi Gloden, I think you are expecting too much of yourself.   I've looked back over my posts and he was sleeping nearly 18 hours a day.  So take it easy,  sleep when you need to and eat what you feel like.  As long as you keep your calorie intake up, you'll be alright.   I hope that your scan shows improvement.  Let me know how it goes.  Love Carol xx

  • Hi Carol. Thanks for your reply. Think I’m getting a bit scary and on edge waiting for result of Pet scan. Had appointment through for biopsy on recent lump on breast today. This coming Friday at 12 pm so by the time I see haematology on the 1st Oct both results will be through. So worried but trying to stay positive. I know lots of people on here are going through tougher times and worries. Love reading your daily posts. Sometimes worrying and awful for you both but you give me many a giggle too. Lots of love and hugs. Gloria xxx

  • Hi there,

I haven't quite finished yet but I notice that with each one recovery is taking longer and there are some general things (tiredness and weakness in muscles) that seem to be getting worse with each chemo and are taking longer to improve with each chemo, so I expect that all have worsened and lengthened  by the time I'm finished chemo.

Also I have read in a few places that it can take a year for tiredness etc. to leave fully, i.e. for you to get back to normal.  And my mum certainly took a long time to get back to full health after her chemo.

Wishing you as speedy a recovery as you can get, but remember your body really has been through the mill so, as others have said, get good amounts of sleep (it is your body's best repair system after all) and just eat well and exercise as you can.

You'll get there and it will be worth it.

    All the best.

  • Hi LJ. Thanks for your kind reply. Yes think I’m being bit impatient. Some days so tired I have to force my self out of bed and then once I’m up find I can gently potter and do little jobs. Makes me feel good when I’ve had a good day and done just small jobs. Feel useful again. Done a bit of cobwebbing today . Longing to tidy up garden but can’t quite get out there yet. Love my garden but this year not been able to do it. All up in the air at the moment awaiting result of Pet scan. Couldent have no 6 ,last Chemo. Was so ill and weak. Seeing haematology Dr 1st Oct. so worried. So pleased your mum got well again after her chemo and I’m sure you will too. Pretty gruelling to go through as we know but if it does the job well worth all the struggle and side effects. Really helps talking on here. Don’t feel so alone with it. Lots of hugs . Gloria xx
