Fear of it coming back

Hi all,

My wife has finally been released from hospital after major surgery and a series of complications to remove a very rare appendix cancer that had spread to her liver and spleen.  We got the news that it hasn't spread to her lymph nodes and so no chemo is needed. So in theory, we just get on with our lives now and find our new normal.  I can't help worry that it will come back. We're told that most cancers of this type, if they return, it will be within the first 5 years.  I'm not sure I can deal with 5 years of worrying about this!  Do other people have this? How do you deal with it, does it get easier?

Thanks,

T

  • Hi Tyogani,

I'm glad to hear no further treatment is needed and that your wife is back home. I think the worry of it returning is very common and normal. Hopefully your wife will be having follow-up appointments to keep an eye on things - and if so, then that will help to ease the uncertainty.

And aside from that perhaps just try to focus on the positives of having your wife home and all the positives of daily life.

I'm sure there are many others on here who have experienced, or are experiencing, the same feelings, so hopefully others will be along soon to share.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
