Father in law

Hi my father in law has been diagnosed with cancer in the liver and rectum , he is 73 yes old and his only option is non surgery just chemotherapy through a drop then tablets.

My partner and his brother looks after their parents as their mum also is on 24 hr oxygen .

My father in law is adamant that both sons are to move out as no one will be allowed in their home due to infections.

Can someone please advise me further ?

Many thanks

Michelle

  • Hello Michelle

I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law's diagnosis and that your mother-in-law is also living with a long-term health condition. It's understandable that there are some concerns and questions among you all about how things will work.

It sounds as if your partner and his brother will need to have a conversation with their parents about how they will be able to manage. It may be that your father-in-law has some concerns about how his treatment might impact him that can be answered and reassured by the Consultant or clinical nurse specialist if he has one.

If you, your partner, or his brother would like to chat things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support they're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

I do hope that things settle over the coming days and that your father-in-law feels less anxious about his treatment and is open to accepting the support that he and his wife need.

    Best wishes,
