Fainting after chemotherapy

I am on second day of recovery after EOX just gotten up off settee to walk to my bed and fainted at top of stairs came round then fainted again shouted son who helped me into bed. I've not eaten much but have drank plenty of water any advice .

  • First thing I would do is contact your CNS and speak to them about this, but definitely when you get up from anything being seated or lying down do so slowly. I've had a number of occasions recently when I've become light headed and dizzy from getting up too quickly, if you feel dizzy and that pre-fainting feeling then lie down or at least sit with you head down, helps the blood go back to your head.

    Take care.

  • Hi,

Anne's advice makes sense. When I was on EOX I found it knocked me for six. Don't try to rush things, I once slept for almost 48 hours after EOX, don't fight it just go with the flow and do what your body tells you to do. Keep hydrated and rest.

EOX was very effective for me but the two infusions do have side effects - see www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../eox

    Good luck

  • Thanks for taking time to respond ,Anne  I didn't contact on call nurse but I'm feeling much better now and I have managed to eat something. I have also started to get up a little more slowly. I am hoping my appetite returns before all the Christmas chocs have gone !!

Thanks again and hope the New Year brings better. Health.
