Extra lumps and bumps

Hi everyone!

Long story short, 2 years ago I had a lumpectomy on my right breast. I was OK, but it had taken 4 biopsies and 2 doctors fighting between whether I had cancer or not to even get to that stage.

2 years on, I've been back and forth to the hospital with additional lumps. My right breast is riddled with cysts, so each one that comes up I have to get checked just in case.

I was at the hospital 2 days ago and the doctor I saw was horrid. I explained that my gp had mentioned it might be worth speak to the hospital about a mastectomy and reconstruction as the amount of times I have to go back, and the amount of biopsies I have to have, increases the risk of something bad occurring. My husband says it's going to be a case of stabbing it one too many times and *** it off ‍♀️ im one more biopsy wait away from a mental breakdown.

So when I explained all this to the doctor, while half naked, vulnerable, and him leaning over me, he raised his voice and became rather aggressive. I was told in absolutely no circumstances would I be allowed a reconstruction as I have no cancerous markers. If my mental health is that bad that I can't handle 'one little appointment' I should speak to a psychologist. The nurse tactically stepped in and gave me a tissue and asked if I was OK as at this point I was sobbing.

While bathing tonight, I've found 2 more lumps. I don't see the point in going back, as I feel dismissed and not listened to. I'm scared, and worried. And honestly, I'd rather they get rid of it all together than go through this every month or 2!

Can anyone give me any advice on what to do from here?

  • Hi Emmyduck123,

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience while seeing that doctor - that doesn't sound nice.

You've done the right thing each time by seeing the doctor and I can understand your feelings about it. You would certainly be in your rights to ask to see a different doctor and to get a second opinion from them - hopefully they will be more understanding and can discuss options with you.

You may also find it helpful to talk things through with one of our nurses. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

I hope you're able to get some more understanding on all this soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
