Ductal thickening and nipple discharge

Hi all

I posted around 6 weeks or so ago.... So, around 3 months or so ago, I noticed what felt like a long thickening in my right breast. I had never felt it before, it is totally different to my left breast. It felt like a long, very hard knot. I went to the gp who could also feel it, and referred me to the breast clinic.

At the clinic I had an ultrasound, which showed all tissue scanned was normal tissue and no lump was seen.

Thus put my mind at ease totally and I just assumed i just have lumpy boobs and I've just never noticed before maybe? However, this area of 'thickening', which I think is a duct, has grown in size, and I can now see it very slightly just looking at the breast even though it is quite deep in the breast.... This didn't concern me as I thought well, I've had an US so surely they'd have seen something? But today, I undressed to have a bath, and as I looked down I noticed a drip of clear fluid at the end of my right nipple. I lifted my breast up and more came out, and did for a little while after, but has now stopped. I have no pain at all or any discomfort. Is this something I should get a second opinion on? I don't want to waste the clinics time when I had an ultrasound only about 4 weeks or so ago.

Thanks for any advice, and sorry for the long post

  • Hello Biologybarbie,

You have taken the right steps in getting this examined and it is good news that your ultrasound came back clear. However, as you have now noticed this nipple discharge I think it would definitely be a good idea to get a second opinion on this and get this looked at. So do make another appointment with your GP or try to see if you can be seen again at the breast clinic. Don't worry you won't be wasting their time that's what they are there for.

I hope all goes well at your appointment and that you get answers soon.

    Best wishes,
