DS1500? What benefits can my Mam claim?

My Dad is terminal with 6-12 months left.

Social worker has said they aren’t entitled to carers after the first 6 weeks whereas the district nurses have said they’ll take over his palliative care.

She has a meeting next week regarding attendance allowance benefit but a family friend has said she needs to complete a DS1500 form which is a benefit for  persons with terminal illnesses.

Has anyone got any experience with this?

They’ve worked all their life and paid into the system so not getting anything back seems a bit unfair to me.

  • Hi sparky ... If you ring McMillan they have someone there that can tell you exactly what they are entitled to ... You firstly talk to someone who will either put you through or they will ring back ... I'm not sure but think he's definitely entitled to more once they have a terminal prognosis and I think it can be fast tracked ... But give them a ring .. they talked to me then sent me forms to claim but I think if you find that difficult they will help you there too ...

It's a nightmare trying to find info ... Good luck ... Chrissie x

  • Thanks Chrissie, much appreciated x
