Dr missed a vital chance

My mum 78 received results yesterday after having a growth removed from her cheek. Stage 4 and asap to have surgery to remove more cheek, neck tissue & lymph nodes. An urgent CT scan too. My dad 88 & I are in total shock too. Having had ulcers on both her legs removed over the past few years we are astounded that on mentioning the growth nearly a year ago mum was told by her GP that it looked ok and was told to apply some cream. It was only while having her leg checked about a month ago the consultant noticed the severity of the face growth. My folks have always had complete faith in their doctors.

My mum has major mobility problems, angina, fibromyalgia, powdered discs, arthritis & a hernia to name but a few. My brother also took his own life nearly 5 years ago so she has suffered major trauma & depression too. I feel her future is not looking good due to this doctors misdiagnosis. I'm really just looking for any help or advice please as only me & my elderly dad to deal with this. Many thanks x

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat midgetgem66 although I'm sorry for the reason you are posting.

I think quite a few members have, unfortunately, been in similar positions so will understand what you and your dad are going through at the moment and hopefully some of them will pop by when they can to offer their support and advice.

If you have any questions about your mum's diagnosis or upcoming surgery do give our cancer nurses a call next week as they will do all that they can to help. Their freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,
