Does cold cap hair shedding ever stop?

Hi everyone, I've had two courses of EC chemotherapy and used the cold cap both times. My hair has been thinning in two noticeable places and has been shedding constantly. My question is if the shedding ever stops, do you ever get to live with the reduced hair you are left with? I have hats and a wig (I only decided on the cold cap after it was recommended by my wig consultant) but feel I can't wear them if they flatten and pull my remaining hair or fill up with shedding hair. I suppose I'm just after advice on whether to continue with the cold cap, but not if I continue shed for the next 6 cycles, or to go back to my original plan and let it go and take control. Hope that makes sense!

  • Hi please don't give up,, I used the cold cap I had 6x FEC-T, i shedded a lot at the start, I did have a big bald patch and lost around 30 percent of my hair. I just want too say that it did start to come back before my last dose of Docetaxil and grew back really quick. Apparently the cold cap helps prevent damage to the folicules, my hair as grown back the same as it always looked like.  I wore hairbands too cover my bald it was fine.

    good luck xx

  • Hi Snow-Drop,

thank you for your reply. To update, most of my hair slid off in the shower last night. I would say I've probably lost 80% and that the cold cap has not worked for me. The rest feels loose and uncomfortable so I think it will all end up coming out. It's sort of a relief, the decision having been made for me. I had tried the cold cal to reduce damage to my folicules, hopefully even using it twice has protected them a little.

it's good to hear it worked well for you.

    best wishes,

    Sue
