Dilemma

Hi

After being told that the cancer in my bowel was successfully removed, my surgeon informed me that he also took away 16 lymph nodes in the bowel area.  Histology reported that 15 out of the 16 lymph nodes were clear of cancer, but the 16th was'nt.  Chemotherapy has been recommended as a preventative. I have been told that there is no scanning/testing of the lymph node to see cancer (as too small to see) and they only know I have it because of the histology report  My question is why take chemo if its unclear if I have it not?.  As you all know side effects are horrific and I am of the belief that non-toxic intervention will be better for me.  This risk of this cancer coming back without chemo is 25-35% and 10-15% with chemo

  • Hello SionL,

I would ask some more questions before turning it down. I had chemo and it wasn't pleasant but I don't regret it. I didn't find it horrific.  I had a smaller amount and fewer rounds than others may need so my experience may not be the norm.  Either way, I am glad I had it, it gave me a level of comfort that I'd done all I could to fight.

    Peace,

    Laura

  • Thanks Laura for your response. I will need eight cycles over six months and it would be a tablet. I don't know if my body can take it and I am of the belief that non-toxic treatment would be better for me, although my family want me to have the chemo. I will attend a pre-assessment meeting on 30/1/17 and will then make my decision.
