Diagnosis and Treatment Plan

Hi All,

My Dad was diagnosed a few weeks ago but today got the news it's lung cancer (small cell), also on spine and liver, which we expected and will start chemo this week or next week.

I'm relieved a treatment can be offered, although now we have the next stage of the effects of chemo and if the treatment will work.

The consultant was happy with how well he looked, only up until last week he stopped playing golf due to leg pain, which he has suffered with for a couple of months, obviously due to the cancer on his spine.

Although I would rather this is not happening, I am relieved a treatment can be offered and the answer is better than the absolute worst, which is what I was thinking.

We now have to decide how/when to tell my two children (10 and 12) we really want to avoid it but now treatment will start, I just don't know what will be best.

Take care all

  • Hello Lucie83

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's diagnosis although obviously, it's good to hear that the team has been able to offer him some treatment. I'm sure that was of some relief to you all.

We have some information on our website about talking to children that you may find helpful. I think that often children are much more resilient at dealing with these kinds of things than we anticipate.

We do have a team of nurses here at CRUK and if you'd like to talk things through with them at any point you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

My best wishes to your Dad ahead of his treatment starting. Keep in touch and let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes,
