Dents in side of breast

Hi all

I am freaking out so much. Im 30, pregnant for the first time, and I had a clear ultrasound on this breast 4 months ago.

Yesterday i noticed an indent on the side of my breast when my arm is by my side. It disappears if i put my arm in any other position, even slightly.

I saw my GP yesterday (in fact i even had a 2nd GP in with me as a chaperone and she confirmed what the other doctor said)

Basically she said because i had a clear ultrasound 4 months ago and she cant feel any lumps or tenderness, that she is 100% certain its nothing serious and is just pregnancy/weight gain related. Im 14 weeks pregnant and have gone up a cup size.

I have really bad health anxiety though and im still terrified.

I have noticed if i squeeze my arm against my side i can create even more of these dents, and these dents travel from my ribs, right up the the dent i can see with my arm by my side (that one dent can be seen without squeezing against the fat though). It looks like cellulite, like the ones i have in my butt when i tense my butt. (Im not overweight but i am out of shape. Just gone into a UK size 12)

Its 5.30am now and this anxiety has had me up all night. I spent all of yesterday googling, shaking and vomiting with fear.

Im going to call back today and ask for a referral to the beast clinic but i just need some reassurance in the meantime because the wait is going to send me crazy.

Has anyone had this before and i turn out to be nothing? Please helo me :(

  • Hello Tropikay,

Congratulations on your pregnancy! You can indeed be reassured by the fact that you had a clear ultrasound on your breast four months ago and also that you have seen two doctors who both confirmed that these changes were just pregnancy related. Pregnancy does change the way your breasts feel so try not to worry too much and don't let this spoil the enjoyment of your pregnancy. Stay away though from Google as it will only bring up the worst case scenarios and will make you feel even more anxious. If you are waiting to be seen by the breast clinic and are worried about this long wait, the best thing to do is to keep busy and distracted if you can, focusing perhaps on your growing bump which represents something to look forward to in the future and trying to eliminate those irrational worrying thoughts. I think perhaps you should talk to your doctor about your health anxiety and whether they have any suggestions to help you deal or manage it as this is clearly affecting your quality of life. If you are still worried and are not fully reassured by the doctors' advice, perhaps you could ask for a second opinion

I hope you feel better and less anxious soon and that everything goes well with the rest of your pregnancy.

    Best wishes,
