The pain in my left ear started about 6 months ago. I've been to numerous GP appointments and they kept saying it looks fine. I've also been to 5 ENT appointments, they all said the same thing... the ear looks fine, there is nothing in the middle ear. However, they picked up that I have nasal polyps. After 6 months I have managed to book an appointment to have it surgically removed.
They said it was mild, however, I’m not still convinced that it's the nasal polyps that is causing the constant pain. I’m aware that clearing nasal polyps will help the eustachian tube.
The pain is around the eardrum. The most recent visit to the GP said to me that my ear drum has sucked inwards. When I went to see a Dr at the ENT clinic, she said it looks fine. They both blame the pain on nasal polys. I’ve tried everything, popping it, olive oil, ear clearing at the walk-in centre, you name it… still the pain is still there.
I’ve bought a pen camera from Amazon to look inside my ear canal, still I can’t find anything abnormal.
However, they did mention about ear grommet, but they are reluctant to go ahead because, i am profoundly deaf in my right ear and 75% deaf in my left ear. The pain is in my left ear and I do wear an hearing aid. They don’t want to do the procedure because it may cause worsen to my deafness.
Since the pain I haven’t been wearing my hearing aid much. The Dr at the ENT said I can still wear it because the eardrum looks fine, what she doesn’t get in her head that the pain is still there. The hearing aid amplifies the sound to the ear drum, which makes the pain even worst.
It has been a frustrating experience, not just me but for my family as well. I did a quick search on google: Scan middle ear, an interesting article came up on Cancer Research UK (I’m hoping its not cancer - www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../middle-inner-about). I though it might be a good idea if i post my symptom here (some of the symptoms are relating to the article... but I don't know if it's ear cancer), hopefully someone will help me out.
