Combined Gastoscopy and Colonoscopy Nerves

So I have been told I need to go and have a combined Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy in a fortnight time. I am weirdly calm regardin the colonoscopy - I think because I have so much pain currently, I don't think it can be worse!

However I am absolutl terrified of the endoscopy. I know it is a short procedure - however all I have heard from people are how awful and uncomfortable it is. Don't get me wrong, I by no means expect it to be a walk in the park. I have been told that due to my age (23) the Dr would rather have me under sedation for the procedures. I also having to stay overnight for observation afterwards which in this current climate is making me even more nervous!

Anyone got some sage advice?

  • Hi...

I had a colonoscopy back in September and knew I had to have it but was absolutely bricking it, that is me nervous about most things unknown.

I had sedative and whilst the experience was slightly uncomfortable it was something I would not be too worried to have again, in fact I do next year and periodically for the next 10 years.

I had a diazepam at home and this helped me relax and worked well with the hospital sedative.

Many people seem to have many different experiences it seems having read posts on here but we are all different.

Sedative definitely made a difference for me and it doesn't wipe you out afterwards.

I wish you well and good luck.
