Colposcopy - hpv positive and boarder line cell changes

Hi,

I could really do with some reassurance or information. Last year I went for my first smear (I'm 25) it came back hpv positive but no cell changes so I was invited to come back this year to have another smear test. I had this done back in May and on the 30th May got my results which said hpv positive and some cell changes known as boarderline changes have been found.

I have been freaking out and Googled it.... Big mistake! Ended up in a huge state!

When having my smear the nurse said she could see a small cyst on my cervix too but said that was completely normal but now I'm scared incase that's something to do with my abnormal result!

I am booked in for a colposcopy on Thursday 3rd September (so in 2 days time, 6 weeks from recieving my results) I've been calmer up till now and not really thought about it after my initial break down about it but now it's in 2 days I am going out of my mind.

Also, in case I have to have a biopsy, do they hurt?

I feel like I just want to be the most prepared. I don't want to get upset in the appointment but my anxiety is through the roof at the moment about this.

Me and my partner would love to start trying for a family this year, do I need to put this on hold?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Hi

i am in the same position as yourself, got my results on 30th June and still waiting for my appointment though.
Try not to worry too much as a lot of posts on here are reassuring and if you go for regular smears changes can take years even decades to develop into anything. I think as you're HPV positive that's the reason they then check the cells which will have slightly changed due to the HPV. Most of the time the cells go back to normal could be just at the time you went they were abnormal.

Ask the nurse some questions when you go.

i hope my appointment comes through soon just want it done.
     Good Luck xx
