Colonoscopy

Hiya im 34 , having colonoscopy on saturday and im now starting to really panic , i avnt had no symptoms but having this due to my dad having bowel cancer 2 yrs ago and tested positive for lynch syndrome,  dont really no what i want any1 to say i just need to chat , im getting to point where i want to back out of goin :( x

  • Hi Hayley..... Please go along and have the procedure... You will be fine. Early detection is curable. The procedure is not painful ( you can ask for sedation) Its embarrassing but so is child birth. These doctors and nurses do this daily and will be so kind to you. Good luck dear. Thinking of you

  • Hi just because your dad has lynch syndrome dosnt mean you will get cancer just you may be slightly more susceptible but all these cancers depend on lifestyl work enviroments smoking drinkind you name it the bumoscope i call it is ok they take you in nurse chats and holds your hand and its its pr much over before you realise whats happend they do sedate you then so you dont know much of whats whats going on back to ward cuppa buiscuit i wasnt embarrassed at all . Ive been having pains auspected prostrate had choice to moniter it or have a biopsy had to have genral anasthetic but i chose that better to know than have the sword of damacles over my head and i lost my lost my partner just over a year ago so ime no stranger to the worry . dont give up its worrying i know but even more so if you dont go plus the odds are low .paul

  • I have lynch 2 , had colonoscopy found a big polyp in my rectum took biopsys,  now im more scared

  • Hi there the fact your under specialists you could not know and that would be ok for a while but now they will at least treat it .ive ive  lucky to i had pains in the groin ive ive  just had biopsie waiting for results if they find these things dosnt mean the end what has eurologist said ?? In my partners case they got it all wrong shes not with us now.i dont know but i i oft here of polyps being removed so try not to worry the minute that word cancers mentioned now we go into a cold sweat but its far from the end luvie ? Paul ps we all have polyips growing in us but most time there benigne

  • Hiya thanks for reply

I no im just so scared , the polyp is flat so cudnt remove it at the clinic i had colonoscopy at so waiting f mri and hoz appointment to remove the polyp

  • I havnt seen any specialists yet

  • Yes understand its eaay to say dont dont worry but at least they are looking after you and sounds like there doing a good job and they will be checking you periodicaly its the ones that dont know they have it thats tha worst ime sure you will feel much better when they take it out have you got long to wait ?

  • Hi, I've had bowel cancer twice in the last 5 years and had surgery both times with chemo the second time. I am now on my 5th colonoscopy but they have saved my life so although they are not the best way to spend half an hour, not to mention drinking all the awful stuff the day before, they have to be done. We all jump to the worst possible outcome and are convinced that it will be the worst outcome ever (I'm the worst person at this believe me) I hope the outcome is a good one and your polyp is harmless. Lots of people have them and don't even know. You are with the best team now doing all the right things and if you are unlucky enough for it to be anything they will have caught it very early which can be sorted out. Let us know how you get on, just let the experts get on with what they have to do then you can get back to normal and put it behind you. xx
