Cold all the time

My husband has had 6 courses of chemo which he completed 2 months ago and is continually on hormone injections for advanced prostrate cancer. His scan came up clear and we have a date for a checkup in 3 months time. Apart from all the usual side effects ie nausea, hot and cold flushes and fatigue. He seems to feel cold most of the time which I find a bit disturbing. Has anyone else suffered these symptoms this far down the line. He has had his bloods checked by our GP and they don't seem to throw any light on it whatsoever but I would have not expected these symptoms at this point.

  • Hi,

Sorry to read about your husband's situation. I'm not a clinician, just another patient, but this is a query that comes up all the time. Has he spoken to his oncology care team, rather than his GP, about it? This may be a less common side effect of his treatment which his GP is unaware of.

In my own case, I suffered from neuropathy in my toes, fingers, feet and hands caused by my chemo which persisted for a few months afterwards. This made them feel cold all the time, even when sitting in a hot bath.

Other people just feel cold all the time, perhaps because they've lost so much weight whilst on chemo, this happened to my Mum.

I hope he starts to feel warmer soon.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • I have multiple myeloma and am currently 'in remission' following 8 cycles of chemotherapy and one session of radio therapy for a rear chest wall mass. I too am aware that I am now more prone to feeling the cold both during the day and at night than before my diagnosis. I do take atenolol, a betablocking drug, for hypertension and which is well known to cause poor peripheral circulation and cold extrematies. Have you considered your husband's complaint as a result of some other drug he might be taking. My remedy is simply to wear thicker sweaters and borrow my grandaughters hot water bottle !
