CIN3 with HPV

Hi,

Recently got smear test results that took 10 MONTHS to be sent to my GP! In Ireland at the minute there’s a bit of controversy over smear test results not being released and unfortunately I was in that bad batch!

It came back as CIN3 and HPV present. I’m waiting to hear back about an appointment with colposcopy. Anyone been in the situation? Obviously very anxious as it was my first smear at 25 and have never experienced anything like this before.

I was wondering of the likelihood of LLETZ procedure happening, is it highly possible? My GP wasn’t great and kept apologising and making me more anxious!

Any information from anyone who has experienced this would be hugely appreciated as I’m quite concerned.

Thanks

  • Hi Cour93

My goodness, what a long wait for results!

CIN3 means pre cancerous cells, and I think it’s most likely that you will need a LLETZ to remove them rather than wait to see if they regress on their own. If they are left without treatment there is a risk that they could develop into cancer so it’s best to get them removed.

The colposcopy is a detailed examination of your cervix, and the doctor will be able to identify where the abnormalities are from this, and then make a plan to remove them.

Think of it as a very positive thing that you went for your smear test. It’s identified an issue which can be sorted out before it turns into anything more serious.

If you have any questions or need some support, please let us know. I’m happy to help if I can. xx

  • Hi,

How are you doing? I am in the same position as you.I am in Ireland and I got my test after 9months.I had it done in Nov 18 and got results on 12th of August. It came back as ASCUS and I was sent to colposcopy where they done a biopsy. I Am now on a week 9 of waiting for biopsy and in total it is week no 49 after having a smear test done.

Did you have any treatment yet or colposcopy done?

    Merion

  • Hello,

I am 22 years of age and I was recently diagnosed with CIN3 & HPV16. I would never have known this as I'm under the age to be called for a routine smear. However I had a smear done because I had suffered with strange symptoms for a year, and my GP who is amazing felt it was important I get one done just in case. So thankful I did!
5 weeks ago I had my procedure to remove the precancerous cells. I didn't get the usual LLETZ treatment instead I received cold coagulation treatment. I see here your waiting time for an appointment is extremely long! The only reason I had mine done so quick is because I am not 25 and there for I had to go to a private hospital. It cost me €1500. I received my smear results on the 30th of June and I was able to get a colposcopy & biopsy, done on the 25th of July, After the diagnosis i was then able to come back for the treatment on the 8th of September.
and i have already been sent a letter with a date for my follow up smear in 6 months time.

It is so shocking to think that unless you go private you are stuck waiting waiting for months to get an appointment. Or if you are under 25 you can not even get an appointment or treatment unless you pay private! Such a terrible system!

i hope you get your appointment soon ️ Xxx

  • Hi, thanks for responding to my comment :) I am glad you caught it and was able to get treatment. So hopefully this will be the end of it for you.Not sure why the test is not available for younger girls as I know so many under the age of 25 who has been dealing with this problems. If I knew this going to take so much time I would have rather paid and had all the cells removed by now.But normally we wouldnt wait this long, there was a problem with smear tests in Ireland, women were dying because they were getting all clear from the labs when they actually had pre cancer cells and developed cancer over years because they were not treated. So there was a huge back log in the labs.I still dont know if I have CIN 2 or 3, I hope that the results will be back next week or a week after but the waiting is probably the herdest part because you just keep thinking what if..But the nurses have been very good and said that I have nothing to worry about and I hope thats the way it is.

    Where are you from?
