Cholangiocarcinoma - need some experience for comparison

Late Sunday I lost my grandfather! I'm broke as is my wife and the rest of our family.

On the Thursday before Bill was given stent to help with the jaundice. He complied about being in high levels of discomfort after the procedure and seemingly declined quickly. During the evening of his passing, his body was in physical pain and discomfort and although he wasn't conscious his body moved and wriggled to try to alleviate his pain.

During the evening the doctors informed us of an internal bleed which I can't help thinking is connected with the stent. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the cause of death.

If people are willing to share their experiences, I'm thinking this feels like an abnormal death because of how quick he declined. Am I over thinking?

  • Hello mjsmears

I'm sorry to hear about the recent loss of your Grandfather. grief is a natural process but it can be devastating and I'm sure this is a very difficult time for you all.

It's not uncommon for people to have questions after a loved one dies. Hopefully, the autopsy will bring answers but if you feel that you want to speak to someone then do get in touch with the hospital PALS department who should be able to help you in obtaining more information from the hospital.

I'd also suggest having a look at the website for an organisation called Cruse. They are a bereavement charity that offers various means of counselling support to those who have lost a loved one.

    I hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you so much. Sometimes knowing where to turn to for advice and guidance is just so tough. I'll take a look through these suggestions. Thank you.

  • Hi

I do not think I can help you feel better, but I will briefly tell you my experience. My darling father was diagnosed early Jan with gallbladder cancer. They told us it would not be long before he would leave us. He was so jaundiced and they told us he needed a stent. They tried an ercp stent but it did not work and then they were going to try another method. Anyway, they then called to say they could not do the procedure and my beautiful, wonderful father would die soon. We found at that day he had cholangiocarcinoma, apparently a silent killer! He passed two weeks later at home and the end was horrible. I miss him every day. I want answers, but I will never get them. Within 6 weeks we lost our Father who was as fit as a fiddle previously.

Words do not help, nor will time. I just put one foot in front of the other. Why I never even knew about bile duct cancer I just don't know.

    take care
