Chemo and post stroke syndrome

Morning.  Two years ago around the same time as I was diagnosed I suffered a stroke.  This was mainly in the cerebellum but it also had a spinal element ( blood clot in front spinal artery ).  That left me with burning legs, poor balance and some incontinence. While normally manageable, I have found that these symptoms are badly exacerbated by any chemo drug tried so far and indeed my legs tend to gradually stop working altogether (and develop electric shock type symptoms!!!) as the cycles progress.

Consultant didn't take it seriously in 2016.  Different oncologist now.  He is taking seriously but says this is a rare combination and basically isn't sure what to do.  Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated?

  • Welcome to our forum,  dropoutguy.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, it sounds like you have been through a lot over the past two years.

As you asked for suggestions on how to manage the symptoms exacerbated by the chemo drugs you tried I thought I'd send you some of the information we have on coping physically with cancer and the side effects of chemotherapy and I hope this information can be of some help.

Also, feel free to give our cancer nurses a call if you feel like talking to someone medically trained might help, they're available on this phone number 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

    Best wishes,
