Chemo and corona

I have received government letter re shielding for 12 weeks. I finished my chemo treatment 19.2.20 and radiotherapy on 9.4.20. My question is how long will it take for my immune system to repair and for me not to be classed as vulnerable/severe risk needing to shield? My works want to know when I can return to work, I would be at risk if I returned to work now as I work front line face to face with the general public. When would I be safe to return to work given when my treatment ended in relation  to coronavirus? In the news they say everyone will still be at risk from this virus for many many months to come or possibly 1 year what does this mean for someone in my position, can anyone give me any advice/clarity? Thanks

  • Hi Chisra,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Unfortunately I'm unable to answer your question at this stage - the best thing to do is to take the inital step from the government (shielding for 12 weeks), during which time it is is likely you will find out more or that guidance will be updated. There is more information on the government website here and I should imagine it will continue to be updated.

If you have any further questions or you'd like to discuss with our nurses, who may be better placed to advise, you can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,
