Chemo after diagnosis of bowel cancer

I start the first of 30 weekly chemotherapy sessions of iv 5FU on Monday following surgery to remove a 35mm tumour from my sigmoid colon. 30 weekly visits to the hospital seems very daunting! Has anyone else gone through this treatment ?

  • Hello piscesjo,

As you mentioned you'd be starting your chemotherapy today, I just wanted to stop by and ask how did your first session go? I hope it was not too bad and that you're a feeling a bit more positive about the next ones to come.

Do stop by when you find a minute to let us know how you're getting on. We're thinking of you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Renata,

it was OK.  A bit tired and my eyes are sore and watery but not too bad at all thank you. Drinking a lot of water and have eaten without feeling sick.

  • Hi Lukaku, I noticed that you'd posted on piscesjo's thread about chemo after a diagnosis of bowel cancer, so I just wanted to stop by to welcome you to Cancer Chat, and point you in the direction of more information and support.

Our friendly forum members often pop in to say hi to new people in the Introduce yourself section, so you might like to try posting in there. It's a good place to start as you can tell people a bit more about yourself and find others who might be going through similar experiences.

You've asked about symptoms of bowel cancer, so I'm including a link to our webpage on this: Symptoms: bowel cancer. If you're worried about a symptom, please do speak to your GP or, if you would prefer, a parent or carer.

We hope you find Cancer Chat helpful. Wishing you all the best,
