Checking my breasts

On Christmas day2021 ,well night actually  I checked my breast as I was experiencing pains in the right breast, the breast I had cancer in ,it was found by me in may 2020. I had a lumpectomy and all my lymph nodes.were removed from under my right arm. And I also had Radiotherapy, which I finished in March 2021. I went to see a breast.care nurse ,at the hospital breast clinic on 31st December to get it checked out. I was refferd back to consultant to get a ultrasound done. I was told it would be in around 4 weeks time. I have just been checked over and have had an ultrasound,  I.noticed a black area on the scan, and started to cry,as I'd been so stressed out and worried that the cancer had returned. But the consultant reassured me it was just a small cyst. I've never felt soooo relieved and happy, I had not been sleeping well .

My reason for this post is to anyone going through this ie ... finding lumps or changes  in  thier breasts  after having treatments for breast cancer, please don't think the worst and worry yourself to the point your not sleeping,  I was told it is quite normal for your breast tissue  to change after treatments, you may well get a thickening of tissue in the breast where you've had surgery, and scar tissue. My cyst they found is very small  so it's just being left. I was told many woman are probably walking around now with cysts in thier breasts, and dont even know that they have them.

Always keep checking your breasts every month ,and never be afraid to go and get anything checked out that's worrying you.

  • Hello Jassoscared,

Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to come here and post your story. I am so so glad it just turned out to be a cyst. What a relief it must have been for you. I am sure that many who are currently feeling as anxious as you were just a few weeks ago will find reading your words very comforting.

As you said, it's a good idea to be breast aware  and it's important to get anything checked out that doesn't feel quite right.

I am so pleased for you it just turned out to be a cyst and you can be totally relieved about this.

    Best wishes,
