Checking in & looking for support

Hey everyone .  I'm just recovering from the hell ride that Is BC . Now on Tamoxifen and waiting - fingers crossed it was enough .  How have others felt when active treatment ends ? I'm torn between feeling elated that I can go back to normal life versus this feeling that life will never be the same again ?

  • Welcome to the forum Coley68.

I'm so glad to hear you have made it through your cancer journey but can understand your questions about what to expect next. Many members here who have finished their active treatment will definitely understand your conflicting emotions and I'm sure some of them will be along soon to offer their support and share their experiences with you.

If you use the 'search forum' option above you can look for and join in on previous discussions about this as well.

    Hi Coley,

Welcome to Cancer Chat and I'm sorry to hear about your breast cancer diagnosis. The way you are feeling is pretty normal.

I have had two bouts of primary breast cancer - the first diagnosed 7 years ago and the second a year later. I had a lumpectomy the first time followed by Tamoxifen. The second time I had a double mastectomy and changed to Letrozole.

From the outset, I was looking forward to stopping hormone therapy, so I was taken aback when I was told that I could stop in July this year. Instead of being elated, I felt as if my safety blanket had been pulled from under me.

I don't believe that any of us feel the same after a cancer diagnosis. It is life-changing and we have to adapt to living with the constant fear of metastases.

I hope that you continue to keep well.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on with your cancer journey. There is always someone here whenever you feel like talking.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
