Cervical cancer scare

Hi there,

I’ve been experiencing a few symptoms that are similar to that of cervical cancer and I’m starting to worry.

After putting my concern of head/neck cancer to rest due to my neck lump being just an enlarged gland, I recently started noticing how after having sex with my boyfriend I’ve started spotting blood. It is not a lot of blood but just a tiny spot every time for the past 2 weeks. I also occasionally get pain during sex but only at the start and then it seems to ease off. Initially I thought it was due to irritation/dryness but after it happened after every time and gradually there being more blood I started getting scared.

I went to see my GP today about my symptoms as I also thought I may have some sort of infection like BV or yeast infection. She did a full exam and said I have a very small cervical ectropion which could explain the bleeding, I’ve had the implant for almost 3 years now and she said they can occur due to hormonal use. She’s also sent off swabs for infections and is waiting for the results before she refers me.

After coming home from my GP appointment, I had a fair amount of blood when I went to the toilet which has scared me even more as I have never seen this much blood as before it was just light spotting. I’m not sure if this unusual or somewhat normal as I’ve never had a pelvic exam before. I’m feeling very worried as I’m only 19 and people are telling me I’m too young. If anyone has any advice or reassuring stories, please feel free to comment! Thank you.

  • Hello Rani1811,

Thanks for posting. You should go back to your doctor about the continued bleeding.

When you are worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers online, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. The only person that can diagnose you is your doctor.

    I hope this is helpful,
