Care option for dad who has metastasised pancreatic cancer

I wonder if anyone could give me and my sister some advice regarding my father who has pancreatic cancer that has spread to his liver?

He has been in and out of hospital since June,  and 2 weeks ago a CT scan showed lesions on his liver which proved to be secondary cancer.  A biopsy was taken and the results on Monday showed that the primary cancer is pancreatic.

Dad was dishancrged from hospital yesterday and placed in a b&b on a temporary basis as his own accommodation is currently uninhabitable,  however we don't feel he is capable of caring for himself at the moment.  The hospital have offered chemo but that can't happen if he remains an inpatient but to risk of infection.
Does anyone know what we can do? Dad only has me and my sister,  I live other side of the country and my sister's son is terminally ill with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.  Are there other options available to us,  and what can we expect to happen in the coming weeks and months?

  • Hello MWP1980,

I am so sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and that it has spread to his liver. I hope that your dad can get the care he needs soon as I can understand why you would not want him to stay in a B and B for long! I think it might be worth bringing this up with your dad's medical team and see whether they can point you in the right direction given your situation. They may have points of contact for you. It would be a good idea also to get in touch with CarersUK - you can find out more here. They may have some suggestions for you in your particular circumstances and some tips as to what practical or financial support or other options might be available to you and your dad.

Feel free also to ring our nurses at any time on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to answer questions you may have or point you in the right direction

I hope that some of our members who have been in a similar situation will drop by and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
