Thanks

  • Hi Jason,

I'm sorry to hear your dad is suffering from pain all over his body. Is the painkiller effective in reducing or preventing the pain? If not maybe you or your dad could speak to his medical team to find out about other ways to relieve the pain. You can also discuss this with our cancer nurses. They're available on 0808 800 4040 (freephone), Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to find other methods of pain relief soon and that the rest of your dad's chemo goes well.

    Kind Regards,

  • Hi Jason,

My mum also experienced near constant pain all over and unfortunately had to take painkillers throughout her treatment. What we found to be most effective was a long lasting background painkiller 20mg oxycontin morning and night (12 hours between), and then oxynorm 10mg as and when needed to deal with breakthrough pain. She also found Abstral to be very effective once she became more tolerant to the other painkillers. It is also effective to try and preempt the breakthrough pain, and have pain relief before the pain really hits.

When she came home it took some time to adjust the dosage to suit her needs but once we found the right balance and timeframes we were able to keep her pain under relative control.

I hope that helps and wishing your dad all the best.
