CA125 and plueral effusion

Hi everyone

I wonder if anyone can help. I have stage 4 ovarian cancer, diagnosed September 2016. It is being controlled with chemo at the moment. I previously had 6 treatmens then a break, and had Avastin as maintenance.

My CA125 was still high at 525 before this round of chemo, results today show that it has halved, after 2 treatments, which is good news. However, I had my pleural effusion drained last week ( 3.5 litres) I was wondering if the CA125 drop is due to this, or the chemo doing it's job.. I'm very confused! Anyone else been through something similar?

    I just wanted to stop by and congratulate you on the good news you received regarding your CA125 the other day. I'm not sure if any of our members can answer your question regarding the decrease so I just wanted to give you our cancer nurses telephone number as talking this through with them may help. They're available Monday - Friday between 9a.m -5p.m on 0808 800 4040 so you may be able to catch them before the weekend starts if you have some spare time to call them this afternoon.

    Do make sure you chat to your medical team about this as well as they'll be in the best position to answer your question as they're looking after you.

    I hope you're able to get some clarity on the issue soon and wish you continued good news as you carry on with your treatment.

    Thank you for your reply. I have since been in touch with my Macmillan nurse and had a long chat. She explained that the reduction will be a combination of the drain and the new treatment. Either way, it's positive news!
